The idea of Africans being barbaric, backward, and inferior can be traced back to the 18th century during the slavery trade. Since the 15th century, Europeans and Africans have been connected through migration, empire, and trade, which may be voluntary or involuntary. Some European people view Africa through the veil of racial theory and racism. Stereotypes that collaborated to establish racism rose from political battles for slavery and the slave trade. Racial differences made it simple for Europeans to justify slavery. Europeans justified the African enslavement by believing that Europeans were superior to Africans. Various ideas supported slavery.
