CONTEMPORARY WORLD HISTORY: THE PARTITION OF INDIA
When the British colonial power handed power to the two dominions of India and Pakistan, 1947, the demand by the Muslim league had raised the concern for having a separate land for the Muslims. At this time, the Congress ruled for two years in India’s provinces which had been handed full control under the terms of 1935 Government of India Act (Talbot, 2009, p405). Thus, these happenings and experience of the Congress rule raised more fears among the Muslim communities about their economic interests and Muslim culture which were thought that it would be trampled upon by the Hindu Raj when the British colonial power departed from India(Menopn, &Bhasin, 1998, p2). The fears came because the population of Indians to that of the Muslim community was big therefore, the Muslim demanded to be separate so that their interests would be taken care of well and also so that their culture would be preserved. In other words, the struggle for the Muslims to dislodge from the Indians was majorly caused by the differences in their religion, culture.
