Ramifications of the 1st World War
World War 1, also termed the Great War commenced in 1914 following the assassination of Austria's Archduke, Franz Ferdinand. This resulted in the prevalence of a deadly war throughout Europe, which stretched up to 1918. Myriads of ramifications befell the world affecting all sectors of human life with massive loss of lives as the deadliest impact of the Great War. Economically, the war consumed about $208 billion, which was a huge blow to the economy (Huskey 327-346). Moreover, the war ruined many empires and established myriads of novel nation-states, rendered the U.S. global superpower, encouraged autonomy revolutions within Europe, and directly fostered the rise of Hitler and Soviet communism.
During the entire course of the 1st World War, about 21 million people were left wounded, while another 20 million lost their lives. Approximately half of the deaths comprised of civilians while the other half incorporated military personnel, thus depicting that everyone's life was threatened by the war regardless of being a combatant or non-combatant.
The 1st World War resulted in the greatest international depression during the 20th Century, a direct ramification of the $208 billion consumed during the war.
