History of Tutankhamun's Tomb
One of the greatest histories in archaeology was made in 1922 when an archaeologist by the name of Carter discovered a tomb where the mummied King Tutankhamun was buried after searching for six years. He found it in the valley of the kings near Luxol, Egypt. It is believed that he died at eighteen, yet unknown the cause of his death is (Wadsworth, 2011). Tutankhamun married his half-sister, Ankhesenamun, but they did not produce an heir.
Carter found four rooms where Tutankhamun was mummied, and the chambers were full of treasure; they discovered approximately 5,000 treasures. These objects include chairs, model boats, gold jewellery, statues, paintings, Tutankhamun's body, chariots, and canopic jars. They discovered that he was buried using three coffins. The outer two coffins were crafted in wood and covered in gold along with many semiprecious stones, such as lapis lazuli and turquoise. The inner coffin, however, was made of solid gold. The death mask of Tutankhamun was also discovered, which was made of gold and weighed up to 10.23kg.
