Kosovo Conflict
Slobodan Milosevic was the main cause of the conflict that rouse in Kosovo. He highly oppressed the ethnic group of the Albanians. This extreme oppression triggered a violent wave of opposition that rose against the rule of the Serbians in the initial formulation of the Liberation Army of Kosovo (Vickers et al., 792). These great conflicts date back to earlier years but fully erupted in between 1998 and 1999. By the beginning of the 20th century, the Ottoman Empire was pushed-off the Balkan region a short before it crumbled down. Serbians having earned back their power and independence in the early years of the 1800s and becoming a formal state in 1878 through the berlin treaty gained control over Kosovo in 1912. By then, the Albanians who were now independent took key strategies towards the independence of the Kosovo. By the same time, the Serbians lost control of the areas and the new lords, the Albanians took over Kosovo until the course of World War 1. After the First World War, the Serbians and Kosovar were merged and placed in one common nation that was newly created, Yugoslavia (Vickers et al., 792).
It is during the course of the 20th century when the Serbians chased a large population of the ethnic groups of Albanians from Kosovo. By this time the main aim of Slobodan Milosevic was to thoroughly evacuate Albanians from the area but throughout the century the ethnic Albanians remained as the majority population and they later became the population with the highest numerical power. Serbians and the Montenegrin community were slightly less the Albanians from 1945 to 1980 during the reign of Tito. After 1980, these communities started to decline in numbers because the Serbians left and the birth rates of the Albanians skyrocketed. The most recent Kosovo residents are the Albanians and the Serbs and they have salient claims over the land.
