Both Port Huron Statement and the Sharon Statement focused on democratic, free and peaceful America. Both pointed out the need for equal participation and involvement of each individual in building a stable nation free from racism, bureaucracy, harassment, war, greedy and dictatorship in leadership. Both recommended positive reforms that embrace participatory approach to enhance civil rights and welfare of each individual (Chafe 25-28).

Port Huron introduced Students for Democratic Society (SDS) movement in order to lay down a radical vision for a better United State. His statement focused much on students’ rights and peace regardless of the means used to achieve it (Students for a Democratic Society par. 3-5).
