The Postwar Era
The post-war period is a time of anxiety, dynamism and creative change. The cold war affected the American society as well as other countries. After the war there was depression in the nation. Later people joined forces in developing the country agriculturally and industrially to boost the economy. Nearly one-third of the American population lived in poverty. Most homes lacked running water, flush toilets and a central heating point (Moody 680). Electricity had not yet spread to all parts of the country; therefore, some farm dwellings did not have electricity. The idea of shopping malls had not yet featured in that society. Racial segregation commonly practiced in schools, and the African American lived in the south due to the segregation even in the public accommodation facilities. There were also few immigrants due to the immigration quotas that were earlier enacted (Moody 682).
