Since the ancient civilization, nations have always had the urge to expand their territories initially inhibited by other communities. The conquests for new lands still resulted in warfare were once the home government was overthrown the winning side would claim the region as an extension of their territory. The Romans were famous during this time because of their army and leaders who led the country to victory and it conquered many cities making them pay tribute to Rome. However, according to the Many Europes: Choice and Chance in Western Civilization during the capture and sacks of Rome by the Gaullist force, Romans were forced to retreat and escape the capital that was under siege (Dutton, Marchand, and Harkness 71). The majority of the people wanted to the Senate to commission the migration to the Roman Veii where the people would start again because Rome had been destroyed by the Gauls and was in ruins.
