A computer is a high-speed electronic device designed to accept raw data and process the data into information from which conclusions can be drawn. Computers are categorized into two categories according to the purpose they perform, general and special purpose computers. There are four classifications of computers according to size, super, mainframe, mini, and microcomputers. Today there are several types and classifications, with each having different functionality and rates of data processing. Computers are applied in several areas such as education, businesses, the military, and several others. Computers are applied in medicine in the following ways.
Today computers play a key role in health sectors. The use of computers manages the hospital information system (Wilson, Randy pg212) . Computers will help to manage the health care data by collecting and storing the medical records of patients. Computers are also useful in handling data that are related to all workers in that organization. Due to this, management of the organization becomes easier through the computers. Another important area where computers are applied in medicine is the area of data analysis. Computers are used as tools to process and produce an intelligent analysis of patient information and conditions. They are also used to extract various parameters and also to respond to different results. This will assist the clinicians in making correct predictions and prescribing treatments eliminating the guesswork which is usually involved in treatment. In the medical field, a huge amount of data is collected, and a computer is used to compile this data and store the data for reference.

This patient will answer questions by use of pointing device to point correct answer on the screen. Medical imaging is a common area where computers are applied. Computers are used to create the images of the human body its mainly used in X- Rays. Patient monitoring is another area where computer is applied in medicine (Meindl, James pg715). Several computer designed machines have been invented to monitor various conditions of patients. These machines are used to collect these signs of a patient in a more easier.it becomes more faster using these machines hence saving time used in treatment and diagnosis of a patient.

The biggest invention in this field is the invention of robots to carry out operation procedures ( Spencer, William pg 915) . These robots are controlled by computers to perform these operations. The surgeon will only remain in control and controls the device to perform surgery. This invention has impacted health sector positively in a greater way. The confined parts of the body, surgeons will control these robots to carry surgical operations to them. Robotic technologies have benefited both medicine and surgery by improving both precision and stability.
