The American constitution confers authority on the serving president to make critical decisions on behalf of the citizen or that which touches on the welfare of the Americans. In essence, this is done through an executive order which basically a written directive, published and bearing the United States presidential signature (National Constitution Center – constitutioncenter.org, 2018). The directive is meant to manage operations of the federal government. Ordinarily, these documents are numbered consecutively for easy referencing by their assigned number or their topic. Importantly, despite the fact that they may be similar to other presidential documents at times, the variation with other documents is pegged on the purpose (National Constitution Center – constitution center.org, 2018). Additionally, executive orders are not legislation because the Congress does not have to approve them. More so, the Congress cannot simply overturn them but only a sitting United States President can overturn an existing executive order by issuing another executive order to that effect (Presidency.ucsb.edu, 2018). In line with this explanation, this essay seeks to discuss an executive order issued on January 9th, 2018 by President Donald Trump on Supporting the Veterans during their transition from uniformed service to civilian life (The White House, 2018).
