Texas Ban of Texting while Driving
The Texas state legislature passed a texting while driving ban which also got a final vote from the Senate, and hence took effect as a law. Since 2011, the state Representative Tom Craddick pushed the legislation to ban texting and driving in vain as some of the governors and state officers termed the law as a means of “micromanaging” the behavior of adults. However, in a recent vote, the legislation was passed with a vote count of 113-32. As such, the law took effect, and therefore offenders will henceforth be charged accordingly. According to state Representative Tom Craddick, Texas was among the four states in the United States that did not have a ban on texting while driving. The supporters of the law term the legislation to be a “common-sense” law that will help reduce accidents on the road. However, the critics of the law state that it would be almost impossible to differentiate when an individual is texting or using the GPS (Mansoor).
