What Trends in Eating Habits Have Impacted Our Environment?
Eating habits have far-reaching environmental implications. Therefore, modifying eating practices could be among the most important approaches for supporting ecosystem conservation and protection. People are becoming increasingly aware of their dietary habits and how they impact the fragile ecosystem. As I will illustrate in this essay, there are shifting trends in response to preventing irreversible ecological problems.
Food waste has created a great deal of disgruntlement for economists and environmental groups. Luckily, consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about the proportion of food that goes to waste. Aside from domestic waste, other forms of food wastage include crops left in the field, food lost in transshipment, and other goods that never make it to a retail store (Evans). People can reduce food waste by cultivating a healthy eating culture like eating in moderate quantities, buying planned foods, reusing, and donating items before the expiry date to the underprivileged.
Global capitalism has made it so much easier to purchase foodstuffs from other countries and conveniently available to consumers, which is detrimental to the environment. According to Evans, transporting foodstuffs from large farms halfway around the world rather than buying locally is wasteful and also hurts the environment (Evans). To cut emissions, people are consuming more locally. As a result of this shift, most people consume exotic fruits on a relatively small scale.
