The increased complexity of healthcare organizations today can be defined as the rapid transformation in the healthcare system pressures, particularly advancement in technology, increased healthcare costs, and the unprecedented rise in the aging population, which influence care provision. Supporting this definition, Khan et al. posit that currently, healthcare organizations are more complex due to the speedy transformation of various system pressures that are challenging the resilience of healthcare organizations (2). Essentially, the increased complexity of organizations means that healthcare professionals and patients have more difficult information and decisions to consider toward optimization of care due to the current changes in healthcare systems.
The high technological advancement such as artificial intelligence significantly contributes to the complexity of healthcare organizations because implementing the new technology is costly and requires expertise. Consistent with this argument, Junaid et al. acknowledge that despite the benefits of advanced technology such as improved patient care, integration of the technology by organizations is challenging because of the high costs of implementation and unstandardized systems (1940). Moreover, the rising healthcare cost contributes to the increased complexity of organizations as high costs hinder organizational sustainability and the quality of healthcare delivery. Rapid aging adds to the increased complexity of healthcare organizations because older individuals are more prone to utilizing healthcare systems, and due to multiple conditions associated with the elderly, healthcare organizations use extensive resources to ensure quality care (Palsgaard et al. 15870). Therefore, there is a need to address the increased complexity of organizations to ensure better healthcare provision and outcomes.
In addressing the increased complexity of organizations, my team members and I would engage in continuous professional education and training to enhance the knowledge and skills required to stay abreast with the new healthcare technology.
