Culture and Social Transmission
Humans learn from humans in different domains. Knowledge and behavior systems are culturally transmitted in a population of human beings. Culture is knowledge and behavior that is socially transmitted from one generation to another, which include both verbal and nonverbal communication, sometimes behaviors, experience, and beliefs. Social transmission has enabled some of the old cultures to remain in place, but most of them have changed. Therefore, education science is an integral field in the recreation of culture (Kováts-Németh 1698). Social transmission involves both social and cultural change are two confusing aspects which appear to mean the same, but the difference between the two is that social change is the change adopted by the whole society while cultural change is that which affect a particular group within the larger society. Cultural change involves cultural elements and involves both material and non-material elements.
Transfer of behavior from one generation to another has happened over the years in every society around the world. Sometimes traits change from one generation to another because of a couple of factors such as civilization and overwhelming problems which make people abandon their original cultural values and norms to overcome problems associated with them. These factors significantly influence the change the behavior of every generation hence the social transmission. According to Berger and Milkman, many Ney York Times articles have shown personal-level psychological processes such as emotions play a critical role in the selection process on culture making social transmission an integral part of day to day life of every individual in the society (4). The study indicates that culture influences people’s daily lives.
