Sustainability has become a central concept in resource management. Brundtland’s perspective of sustainability is the one that is adopted. In this case, it is considered as the resource use or development that meets the needs of the current generation while taking care not to compromise the ability of the future ones to respond to their own. The capacity of the natural resources to sustain life is continually getting compromised to increase in population, and climate change. This is the context of wise resource principles and conservation. This paper analyses economic sustainability and energy use as practiced by Decathlon.
The organization that I recommend for this study is Decathlon a renowned organization that offers professional advice on sports and culture. With regards to community development, and economic sustainability energy is wasted here. While the organization promotes economic sustainability and energy, it encourages activities such less use of vehicles and other energy consuming tools in its production and operating systems. For example, there are many employees using personal cars in the organization. Almost all managers and supervisors are using company vehicles instead of carpooling to save energy. The company has also many old machines and computers that use a lot of energy. Indeed, this is one of the avenues through which people can conserve the environment as well as ensure proper use of available energy use. Besides, the company creates and innovate products that are energy efficient and easy to use. For instance, the company is able to engage different teams through sporting activities and tree planting. The company has various training and coaching activities that are aimed at creating awareness for energy saving techniques.
Research needs to be done to generate progressive and practical recommendations that would foster energy conservation here. It is an irony that the firm which is in the natural resource sector and should be privy to many types of research concerning energy costs and availability but use is involved in wastage.
The solution to the above situation can be implementing an energy saving plan that will cause little usage of energy. The manufacturing facilities and other related activities can be modified so that a small amount of energy is used to in the routine activities at the organization. This is working. Most blue-chip companies are using such technologies that monitor energy use in real-time and automatically switch off any operation that is not in use.
