Indirect Relationships between Medicaid Funding and the Learning Outcomes
There is a relationship between Medicaid funding and the learning outcomes. The Medicaid is a social healthcare program in the United States that caters for families as well as individuals who have low income and also those who have limited resources (Medicaid.gov 1). Simply, the Medicaid program helps to cater for healthcare bill of those people who find the cost unaffordable irrespective of their ages. It is partly funded by the federal government and partly by the state governments. The federal government should give a certain percentage of funds for Medicaid states (Medicaid.gov 1). The percentage is known as Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP). The percentage is not uniform across all the states but it depends on the per capita income of the state, and the maximum is 85%.
The Medicaid program has an indirect link to the learning outcomes. Some of the learning outcomes are to understand the national constitution, the major institutions of the national government as well as the federalism. Through the Medicaid program, I am able to learn about the major institution of government federalism where the powers are shared between federal government and the state government. I also learn about the national constitution because Medicaid program is clearly stated in the US constitution under Patient Protection and Affordable care Act (CCH Incorporated 16).
Planned Parenthood is a program that focuses on the provision of the reproductive health services to both men and women. It is funded through Medicaid program (Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc. 1). These include sex education, research in reproductive technology and also works towards protection of reproduction rights. In Texas, the funding to the program has been withdrawn because of engagement in fetal tissue (The New York Post 1). Such withdrawal may make poor families, and individuals suffer because they will be deprived of funds to cater for their reproductive health.
