Racial Division in America has increased During Trump’s Reign
Introduction
Historically, America has been known for racial division and the marginalization of some racial groups such as Latinos and African Americans. Over time, the fights for equality have ensured that people from these marginalized groups get the same opportunities as the larger white community. The embracing of equal rights for all slowly leads to the inclusion of representatives from all racial communities in Parliament and prestigious schools. The election of President Barrack Obama as president marked a new dawn for the country as it was the ultimate show of equality and acceptance for all marginalized communities. Additionally, the election of an African American president opened new opportunities for people from these groups.
The election of President Trump opened new wounds with renewed cases of racial discrimination reported in the news. Eventually, the demonstration was held a few months ago over police brutality against African Americans and white privilege in America. The sharp difference between Obama's presidency and that of Trump suggests that racial discrimination is rising because Trump is in power. According to Bobo (S85), racism and white supremacy are part of the American culture and did not die during the civil rights era. Making Obama the face of America did not change the view the people had of themselves. Racism could not have ended during such a short period.
Racism and the Obama Era
When Barrack Obama vied for president, there was little hope that an African American would get elected in a seat that had primarily been a white man's job since independence. The more he advanced up the stages of elections, the more of a threat he became, and once he became president, history changed not only for America but for the entire world. The beginning of the election of President Barrack Obama as president of America created hope for African
Americans and the other marginalized groups as the start of a post-racial era in America. African Americans viewed the new dawn as a chance for them to make it out of the economically challenged groups and hopefully get new opportunities to change their way of living. Despite this, the white man has always considered themselves superior to all other races. This ideology did not change with Obama's election and will take more than one African American president's election to change.
After President Obama's election, several people were of the perspective that social class would be the new marking to categorize people and that we would have achieved racial equality (Teasley and Ikard 413). Even using the class as a marking, many African Americans, Hispanics and Latinos come from a lower social level than Whites. Such a move would underline the racial discrimination in the country more than racism does. Most African Americans come from low living standards and can barely put food on the table (Teasley and Ikard 413). Latinos and Hispanics work long hours and even take on three jobs a day to keep their families running compared to the white community that mostly lives in comfort.
