Sexual Liberation for Women Enhances Equality
Increased sexual liberation for women results in equality in society and empowerment in relationships. Women, just like men, desire to have autonomy and to have some level of control in sexual relations. However, women are often pushed to express only the submissive side of dialectic eroticism due to sexist social relations (Valverde 39). Specifically, the socialization is such that men are assigned the role of lover/hunter/subject, whereas women are assigned the role of beloved/hunted/object. Thus, women cannot express their sexuality in liberty. Doing so attracts judgment from the society, which expects the woman to always surrender under a man. The implication is that men’s social power makes them sexy, whereas women are denied the right of active power (Valverde 40).
