BP, as a corporate institution, is always faced by management crises and other organizational challenges. BP is an international company operating in many countries in the world. It deals with petroleum products, which are very much important to many economies that depend on petroleum products as their chief source of energy. A prudent management practice is paramount to such a company. Failure to exercise sound management practice and the company stands to risk jeopardizing the operations of the dependent economies. In the year 2002, BP was faced by economical and management challenges which made the company change its mode of operations as well as accommodating new operation tactics to deal with present and the anticipated challenges.
BP was facing control challenge issues that forced them to reexamine their leadership mode. Poor results and inability to handle current issues that they were facing made the management team to rethink their mode of management. The relationship between the senior management team and the junior managers was poor and not cohesive. They also had to reexamine their management mode because their employees ware not happy and they felt unmotivated. They did not feel like they were part of the stakeholders of the company and were therefore unwilling to work with utmost good faith. The public was also not appreciating the company’s poor performance record that was there by then. Those who relied on BP services were dissatisfied by their poor and inconsistent service delivery. Good leadership in a company is the backbone of everything in that company. If the management class is not dedicated enough to steer the company to prosperity, all company structures are expected to be disorganized and poor service delivery is most likely to be demonstrated. Due to poor management, BP was not able to meet its targets hence creating an economical crisis to its customers.
In most of cases, challenges awaken organizations and provide them with the need to be organized. Competition and complaints from the customers and employees forced the management to adopt new strategies on how to deal with present challenges. It was most likely that they (management team) were willing to defend the interests and the reputation of the company. This resulted in the management class reshaping the company’s structures and creating an organizational culture, which was perceived as acceptable by the present economic environment. A dissatisfied workforce meant poor service delivery to BP’s customers, who were very much important to the company’s continuity and prosperity. Motivating the employees was a priority as well as creating a good working environment for them. Pressure from the involved stakeholders made the management team to reorganize their mode of operations to fit the high demand and high quality services to its corporate customers.
