Why Capitalism is Still Viable?
Recently, there has been a backlash in the economic sector of most countries with citizens crying foul of how capitalism is unfair to the system. The question is to know whether it needs regulation or we need to switch to communism and socialism.
Modern day Russia, previously the Soviet Union, is famous for building concentration camps during the Soviet era. They were inhumane and put people through adverse living conditions. Alksndr Solzhenitsyn describes the situation as the "Gulags of the Archipelago." People were used as slaves and put in small tiny rooms with no light, minimum food, and those who opposed the system were assimilated and locked further away from the rest of the people or taken to the fields and tortured to death. During Alexndr's stay in the Gulags, he learnt that humans would beat their morals and become animals then try to justify their actions by stating the ideologies which they served under. Anybody who visits the historical "gulags" which are now museums is utterly shocked and would not want to associate with socialism, having seen what innocent people went through to live under such a system.
Tanzania, in the East African community makes a brilliant case study of a country that had adopted communism. In this system, everyone was to be equal and all the communal resources belonged to everyone regardless of their contributions towards achieving them. During the same period, Kenya had adopted a capitalistic system just like its colonizer the Great Britain. The system in Tanzania led to laziness, communal conflicts and laxity amongst the people. Some people felt that they were contributing much more to the society and as a result were being used by the bigger community, and indeed the majority became lazy since they relied on the stronger population to provide for them. Tanzania is about two times the size of Tanzania, but Kenya is still wealthier and commands a higher GDP per capita than Tanzania.
The big question has been whether to put the people on constant monthly stipend, provide free healthcare and free food. In such a situation, a country is likely to go broke and even so, the citizens are likely to become lazy and ask for an increase every single time. For a country to be stable and economically viable, there has to be a set of rules to govern it's capitalistic nature which in most cases have favored the government and huge corporations such as banks. Big corporations are always looking for debt waivers from the government, this is a socialist aspect. The net result of how they treat the local law abiding citizen who pays their taxes is not reflected in a linear way at the end of the day. It is still a topic marred with discussions aroun
