A merger is when one or more corporations integrate into one larger business entity to reach a desired result or goal. According to Rikard Larson, (1999), it is an exercise that entails the purchase of one corporation by another to form a new company. Facebook has a daring acquisition game plan. They have obtained several businesses worldwide over the time it has been operational. They consider securing new technologies, new talent and buying out the competition as the primary factors during their acquisitions. Hence this has proven to be a very successful approach. WhatsApp Acquisition, on the other hand, is suitable for this strategy. This study focuses on what makes a merger successful and the appropriate manner of measuring merger success.

Facebook is an online organization that provides social networking services. The social media platform was established in the year 2004 and has its head office in California. Although at the time it was starting, the site had very minimal access from the public; access increased two years after it was launched. It allowed users above 13 years of age, with valid email addresses to access the site.
With support from his co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg took responsibility for all the initial operating costs of the website. They had a consensus in which each of them contributed equally towards the general operational expenses.
