Dear Mr. Becker,
The Exquisite Entertainment team during the annual management offsite meeting had the opportunity to meet a business strategist from Ernst & Young, Alex Harrington at Worlds of Play-Seattle. She had a strategy that would aim at the wealthy people who had no time to spend on the long queues. The “mass affluents,” would be given preferential treatment at the park restaurants since they will have bought the “preferred guest” card which will be much costlier as compared to the regular cards.
The strategy elicited a heated debate on what the price of this card should be, with the human resource vice president being reluctant to embrace the idea. It was mainly because she found it contradicting the Worlds of Play main agenda which was to bring families together and make sure they had a good time away from their daily hassles. The marketing vice president, on the other hand, found the approach as one that would only provide a short-term solution for a few years. He worried that the tactic would in the long-run erode the peaceful environment that attracted families. Alex however, remained adamant that the company needed to change the way things were done to avert a “hostile takeover,” or a “cash crunch driven bankruptcy.”
The strategy would have negative impacts in the long-run, as it will make the average families feel unappreciated while the targeted wealthy families would feel provoked by the bitterness from other customers and this would eventually reduce the number of people visiting the amusement parks. It was, however, clear, that increasing the number of visits per client and the how much they spent per visit as well as appealing to new customers were the three ways they would raise the amount of revenue for the company. The strategy pushed for by Alex, mainly focused on spending and bringing in new customers.
