Abstract
The ketogenic diet has a reputation for being very effective despite its strict requirements. This study compares the health outcomes of people who follow the diet with those who do not. A random-effects meta-analysis is used to aggregate the data from the many studies. Success rates of participants who stick to the diet were compared with those who drop out. Diet participants who "adhered" to the program remained in it longer and had a higher success rate. After following the diet for a while, seizures ended in 24 percent, 52 percent, and 90 percent of those who did so. The study level for each of the 19 investigations was either Class III or IV. Focused seizure sufferers were more likely to leave the institution earlier. Adolescents may find it difficult to follow a diet plan because they detest being told what they can and cannot eat.
