Political Cartoons of Vietnam
Political cartoons, like yellow journalism and propaganda, are intended to persuade people or to share an opinion about a topic or event. Political cartoons usually try to do this in a humorous way. The trick is to use the techniques used in the drawing like exaggeration and labeling to understand the artist’s view and meaning. Once you understand its meaning, the cartoon makes you think and it may change or support your opinion.

The cartoon uses captions where the cartoonist has written some information regarding what the cartoon is about. This caption attracts the attention of the reader. In addition, the cartoonist has labelled the whitewash can which is being used to erase the truth. A metaphor is used in the caption and the process of erasing the truth which mean that the truth is being concealed. The cartoon is anti US and is about anti war because it has campaigned against the war.

The artist created the cartoon to signify the causes and effects of war in Vietnam. In the cartoon, someone is seen erasing the Vietnam truth using whitewash. The cartoon has originated from Vietnam and is addressing the war between Vietnam and USA. Tracing the history of this cartoon, it seems that it was created during the Vietnam war which led to several effects on Vietnam. Hence, the cartoon has clearly brought out the idea it is meant to communicate.

The Vietnam government and the Vietnam people. Characters are also used by the artist as they have brought out three characters in the cartoon. The Cartoon is anti US and pro war because the struggle will result to war.

The history of the cartoon is during the America-Asia struggle for independence. The US Government was pushing the Asia government to enforce its people to do as US wants. However, the people protested arguing that they are independent. This led to the creation of this cartoon. Based on what we learnt in this chapter, the cartoon does not only entertain by being funny. Additionally, it brings out a clear understanding of what conspired during the period of the war.

The cartoon has implemented three elements which are the labels, signs and metaphors to pass its message. The gun is labelled USA to show what is going on. In addition, the gun is used metaphorically to represent the USA and their power where they have enslaved the person. A sign is used where the person tied to the gun has spread their hands to show that they are devastated. The cartoon is Pro US and pro war as it shows that the war is still on.

The historical background of the cartoon is when US has spread its power towards other countries and led to war. The artist created this cartoon to show how the war affected people especially by enslaving them. The reason behind the creation of the cartoon is the war that resulted from the US invasion. The cartoon was created to communicate to the reader the events of the war. Therefore, based on what we learnt, the cartoon has addressed several factors that we learnt that a cartoon should serve.

The cartoon has used several elements such as labels, metaphors, and signs. The artist presents a deep hole which is a metaphor to show how deeper the war has gone. The hole is labelled appropriately where the artist presents how deeper the Vietnam Asia war has gone. The hole is used as a sign to show the effects of the Vietnam war against Asia. The cartoon is anti US because it is against the Americans. It is an antiwar because it was created during the war and is campaigning against it by showing the effects it has caused.
