The Rise and Fall of Chinatown in Washington D.C
Chinatown is located between the H and the I street and between the 5th and 8th streets NW in Washington DC. This section of the town was once a vibrant part; home to many immigrants from China. However, today, there is a different story where less than three hundred Chinese live in the neighbourhood thanks to the massive development and gentrification that has taken place in the area. The neighbourhood has a strong historical site that speaks about the culture of the community that once lived there and the need to remain strong in fighting racial and social injustice. This is a history of ethnic enclaves that led to the Chinese being forced to live in the secluded areas. The Chinese came to the USA in pursuance for a better life, but they were not welcome in the eyesthe of the Americans. This led to conflict and which led to the anti-Chinese protests that were meant to eliminate them. This was taken a step further when the act that inhabited the migration of China to the United States was enacted. Therefore, in that hotbed of racial discrimination, the Chinatown was the haven where they could live together, build a society as well as share whatever they had in times of hardships.
