Sicko Analysis and the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
Sicko a documentary by Michael Moore explores numerous issues facing the United States health care system. The film was released in 2007 before the Affordable Care Act (ACA) commonly identified as Obamacare was enacted. Moore reports that nearly fifty million Americans lacks medical insurance which leads to eighteen thousand deaths every year. The film depicts a picture of a broken health care system which is characterized by insurance companies and politicians that do not care about their consumers and citizens respectively. Furthermore, after exploring France, Cuba, Britain, and Canada’s health care systems, Moore realizes how these nations provide their citizens with cost-effective medical care. In addition, the film notes that despite Americans paying high insurance fee, in cases of urgent medical needs, insurance companies usually reject patients on baseless reasons. Despite the Affordable Care Act making significant steps in lessening health care crisis in the USA, it has not achieved perfection.
