Introduction
Towards the end of the film Persepolis, Marjane tells viewers that “Freedom always comes at a price.” Marjane arrives in Europe for the second time in early 1990s. At this time, Marjane who was introduced to viewers as a feisty girl is a young woman. She had recently gone through a divorce and was struggling with the repressive limits of life in Iran. The film Persepolis that is based on Marjane Satrapi’s autobiography also titled Persepolis that was published in the year 2000 is mostly a black and white animation that depicts the life of Satrapi against the backdrop of her life during the Iranian revolution and its consequences (Satrapi & Paronnaud, 2007).
