This paper aims at discussing the movie Titanic with a special interest on the main theme of the film; the theme of love and commitment
Arguably one of the biggest films in the twentieth century, Titanic is a romantic disaster movie directed by renowned American director James Cameron and stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is a fictional enactment of the sinking of the ship RMS Titanic that took place in 1912 (King 3).The passenger liner RMS Titanic hit an iceberg in the northern side of the Atlantic Ocean leading to capsizing when on her maiden cruise to New York City from Southampton in the United Kingdom. The ill-fated ship caused the deaths of more than fifteen hundred people having been the largest ship in service at the time of its commissioning. The disaster is among the biggest maritime mishaps of the century (Jenkins& Brian, 123).
The story of the Titanic therefore inspired the production of the film.
