Motives For Killing For Grenouille And Frankenstein's Monster
I find a certain amount of iron in the way senses played into both stories; rejected for lack of smell for Grenouille and Frankenstein’s monster rejected for being unsightly. In both stories the writers depict the case of nature vs. nurture. One cannot fail to wonder if the characters in the stories and the films would have been different if circumstances were more nurturing for them and their existence rather than the reactive approach they had to their environment. The motives of both ‘monsters’ differ, yet in a similar and a coincidental manner both wanted to just be accepted, to be loved. This essay seeks to discuss these motives in a detailed manner.
