Gender and Disaster: The Impact of COVID-19 on Women (Movie Review Sample)

Instructions:

the task is all about to make a Video review on a Three-minute video-documentary on “The Impact of COVID-19 on Women” -https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=269943047350187.
The video-documentary shows how women are badly affected by COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic is a disaster that exacerbates the prevailing gender inequalities. The pandemic affects women and men differently and women are disproportionately affected. Women are vulnerable to this pandemic because a high percentage of healthcare workers and workers in the informal sector are composed of women, putting them at an increased risk and exposure to infection. The implementation of lockdowns all over the world has forced some women to be isolated at homes and be trapped with their abuser, increasing the reports on domestic violence. Moreover, this pandemic also contributed to the increased maternal and neonatal mortality since women and babies are more vulnerable due to the shortage of medical supplies. Although women are more vulnerable, data reveals higher mortality rate in men and this is due to various biological psychological, behavioral, and social factors that also put men susceptible to infection (Griffith et al., 2020). Men, however, are well-represented in decision-making positions that lead in the response to the pandemic.
The imposed quarantine during this pandemic has contributed adverse impacts to the young people in our community. A number of young girls experienced early pregnancy. Also, many students lost free quality education opportunities due to poor internet connectivity and ineffective self-learning. These problems continue to manifest in the community. To mitigate the sudden increase of teenage pregnancy, the community health workers distributed condoms and started online campaigns on sex education. Also, the local government units distributed e-learning tools to underprivileged students. These programs are being led by the barangay officials and the Sangguniang Kabataan officials composed of men, women, and individuals who identify themselves beyond the binary classification of gender. However, these actions and efforts made were not enough to ensure the safety and protection of women and men during this crisis. One of the reasons is the inadequate knowledge on safe sex and the lack of means to access the online campaigns. Another reason is the short-lasting and biased implementation of these programs. Thus, to ensure the safety of men and women, the leading figures, with the cooperation of everyone in the community, should further advocate for a more intensified campaign on proper sex education. It can involve online or via text and call consultations to help clear out any misconception or simply give fact-based advice. Aside from teenage pregnancy, cases of suicide and domestic violence have increased. Hence, help should be available whenever it is needed. This could be done by assigning barangay tanod who will patrol around the barangays, and by setting up hotlines and Facebook pages that are ready to help and take action 24-7. These will serve as spaces that will spread mental health awareness, and support systems that will strive to help victims of abuse and those struggling with their mental health.
