DARE is essentially a federal program that operates within schools to prevent vice such as drug abuse. The program essentially provides a range of education resources that help overcome influences such as peer pressure that result in drug abuse. The program recognizes that early interventions are beneficial in preventing drug abuse before it reaches addiction levels. There have been multiple efforts to quantify the outcomes of the program with regard to preventing drug abuse. For instance, recent program evaluations have shown the benefits of the DARE program in controlling drug abuse behavior in elementary school (Hansen et al., 2023). These evaluations assume the form of longitudinal studies measuring the results of the program over time. The means for data collection in these evaluative initiatives have often included surveys, interviews, and observations to assess the impact on the program’s goals. There were several reasons for the program evolution efforts targeting DARE. First, program evaluation was designed to assess the cost-effectiveness of the program. Given that the federal government invests in DARE, there is interest in knowing whether the benefits justify investment in DARE initiatives.
