The idea of training and development within organizations has grown over the years. More organizations have realized its benefits, and are investing billions each year into learning and development programs. Whenever organizations plan on training, they expect to see improvements all round, from improved skills and productivity to the retention of their workers. Facilitating learning and development can be equated to long-term investment by the company. Therefore, there is a need for an assessment of whether the investment is worth it or not. Any organization that implements training would like to know how effective it was in helping their workers gain more knowledge and skills. This is the reason why evaluation is a key tool used to assess whether the learners were able to apply what they learned in real-life situations.
The Importance of Evaluating learning and Development
It is approximated that the training and development industry in the US alone is growing by over 14% annually. This depicts how organizations are putting more into this sector, with the hope of getting huge returns. No organization wants to spend a lot of money, yet see no returns in the long run. With this in mind, evaluating the learning and development can help make implications on whether the company is on the right track or not. There are many different training programs out there that promise to give results. However, there is no sure way to prove their authenticity, apart from assessing the outcome after the training is done. This will help sort out the good training programs worth your investment while filtering out other programs not worth your time.
