CHAPTER TWENTY TWO:
Theory and politics are two of the aspects of decision making that are largely ignored. This is because these two aspects are perceived as unpractical or non-relevant to be tools of decision making by students especially in institutions of higher learning (Ellis in McClellan & Stringer, 2016). The argument leveled against political decision making is that politics and decision making do not mix. This could be largely due to the absence of a clear definition of, especially, politics. As a fact, it is verifiable that there might be as many and varied definitions of politics as there are many people, thus making the concept hazy and largely misunderstood. Politics, however, should never be detached from decision making because numerous definitions anchor the meaning of politics to the process by which decisions are made. This means that politics as a model of decision making comprise of social relations involving power or authority, tactics and methods used in formulating and applying policy (Ellis in McClellan & Stringer, 2016). This means that politics is not only part of the social fabric in matters pertaining on policy formulation, but also the educational system. It is through politics that individuals can raise their matters of concern such as those regarding rights, inclusion, social justice, unions, and others.
