Homework as a Trending Subject in the Education System
Cooper (2015) defines homework as any task assigned to a learner outside the normal time frame of school activities. Homework has led to many different reactions from school teachers, parents, communities and several educational stakeholders. The ideological conflict has revolved around whether it is prudently right to administer assignments to students after long hours of school activities. Most teachers view this positively since they are convinced that homework makes learners be in check with school work. Education policymakers on many occasions, do not clearly outline the structural curriculum elements of the schools and the rightful age brackets of the learner to be exposed to the extracurricular activities for effective learning and content integration.
Today, many school teachers are giving a lot of work to learners, while others do not give it at all. These variations in the implementation of the same curriculum has created a heated debate, with a lot of research interests in homework. There is need to determine both the ethical and unethical sides of homework to a learner, as well as consequences of total adoption or avoidance in schools to the overall performance of the learners.
