The Four Key Messages of The 2010 IOM Report
The report points out issues that should be addressed to ensure the nursing profession is working well. The first message in the report is that nurses should be given a conducive environment to practice to the full extent in line with their education and training (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2016). Nurses have a significant contribution to the health care system. Nurses need to have the chance for their full potential to be realized. They can provide innovation, which will lead to the improvement of the system. Some policies bar the profession from full potential, which include high turnover and a high percentage of the aging population, which should be addressed.
Secondly, the report does point out the issues of the education system. Training and education should be improved to ensure there is a seamless progression in academics. It should provide levels that nurses should follow as they advance their studies. The education system should be improved to address the current gaps in the health sector, which has caused the stagnation of the profession. Some training should be proposed in the system that will be offered at given levels of the profession.
