Abstract
Depression is a common treatable condition. It’s always a notion that depression is as the result of imbalances in the brain chemicals, a theory that in this research will prove that is not the case. Depression results from the mismatch in mood regulation by the brain, a history of medical problems in the body, especially in the brain and the regular occurrence of stressful life events. This shows that depression is majorly induced by the psychological environment experienced by an affected individual. According to the journal by Harvard Health Publishing (2017), most psychosocial stressors that induce PPD have a big impact on its chronic effects. One common type of depression is Postpartum Depression (PPD) that occurs after women deliver a baby. The feelings of postpartum depression last longer and are more intense than those of ‘baby blues.” The victims of the condition exhibit worry, fatigue, and sadness and if these are not resolved within a few days, the mothers can be adversely affected. I intend to use scholarly reviewed works to accomplish complete research on the Postpartum Depression topic.
Women encounter dilemmas on the negative effects of an untreated psychiatric disorder during the postpartum period versus the risks of exposure to the breastfeeding infant from psychotropic medication. Consequently, Pearlstein et al. (2009) have included a limited scientific, ethical and cultural discussion about postpartum blues and postpartum psychosis. The risk factors that have been associated with been affected with PPD include limited social support on a woman, a history of depression prior to pregnancy and an ambivalence about pregnancy. The significance of this article is to study is to explore more on postpartum depression and support the combination of scientific, ethical and cultural combination of factors that entail the diagnosis and treatment options of the victims of PPD.
