The issue has been debate has been discussed and debated on various platforms and medical education centers in efforts of establishing its efficacy and effectiveness in nursing and patient care. However, the determination of health systems’ guidelines and policies to discourage delegation of nursing orders and protocol has been dispelled by the sudden deficit of registered nurses. This has raised great concern on the quality of patient care been offered. This shortage of qualified and registered has led to overworking and exhaustion of nurses hence the need for delegation of nursing duties. Delegation is a key aspect in the delivery of quality healthcare. The concepts of delegations have been adopted and implemented in diverse healthcare systems to facilitate personalized patient care and medications. However, the state nursing practice act dictates that principle of delegation must be considered. This requires that RNs follow the states guidelines and protocols during delegation. The Nursing practice act has set rules and protocols to be followed during delegation (Anthony, Standing, & Hertz, 2014). The Act requires that duties be delegated to licensed and unlicensed practitioners based on the complexity of the duties. However, these nursing practitioners must meet the following criteria as required by the State nurse practice Act.
  • They Must have undergone nursing training and working within a nursing facility for a quite some time. This is to ensure that they have deep understanding of nursing practices as well experience.
  • Should work under the supervision of Registered nurse supervision. The Act states that the RN should take responsibility in case of occurrence of medication and patient care errors.
  • Must work the scope of nursing practice. The nursing practice act requires that UAPs and LNPs work under the scope of nursing principles and ethics.
  This case study seeks to determine the necessity and ethics of delegating nursing duties to Unlicensed nursing practitioners. This study finds out that RNs are more comfortable to delegating duties of educating patients on components of a soft diet as well as well as carrying out basic phlebotomy procedures. These practices do not require academic and technical nursing skills hence accommodates delegation to experienced non licensed nursing personnel  The case study depicts unlicensed nursing practitioners with 10 years experience in emergency patient care. He is passionate, experienced, and dedicated in emergency patient care. A RN may consider delegating phlebotomy duties as well as educating patients on dietary needs to him despite the fact that he is unlicensed.
