This brochure has been written for the individuals who are over the age of 65 and have depression .The leaflet is also being expected to be helpful to the relatives, caregivers and even friends. It covers
* Symptoms of depression
* How adult people can be helped.
* Various suggestions for further research.
Every person in their lives feels sad in some occasions. However, these feelings can be short lives and disappear after a shorter period of time. When a person has depression, it usually interferes with their daily operations and might cause pain for the affected person and the people who care about them. Depression especially for the adult is common but it is a very serious sickness.
A huge number of people with depression never look for treatment. But the majority can get appropriate treatment and get better in various ways which include psychotherapists, proper medication and other techniques that can treat the people effectively.
There is a number depression disorder:
Major depression: this come with severe symptoms that usually interfere with the ability of a person to sleep properly, eat, work or even enjoy their personal life. An episode of this kind of depression might occur once in a life of a person, but often a person might experience several episode of this kind of depression
Persistent depressive disorder: This is a depressive disorder that is usually that last at least for two years .An individual diagnosed with this kind of depression might have a number of major depression with other periods of less severe depression but the symptoms end up for not less than 2 years.
Some kinds of depression usually run through a line of families. However depression can also occur to individuals who do not have any history of depression. Psychology researchers are looking for certain genes that might make some persons prone to depression .Some of the study have indicated that some genes that are responsible of depression are brought about by a number of external factors such as the environment that we live in and other factors within our vicinity. Furthermore, loss of love, relationship challenges and other stressful issues might bring about depression .Other episodes of depression might even occur without any trigger.
Depression is usually common among women than men. Biological, hormonal and psychological issues that are usually experienced by women might be connected to the higher rate of depression among women than men. Researchers have indicated that hormones usually affect the brain directly hence controlling the emotions of an individual. For instance, women are highly vulnerable to develop postpartum depression after birth because there will be hormonal and physical changes and the responsibilities that come with caring of the new born child.
