Specific purpose: To inform my audience that family, friends and the environment greatly determine one’s happiness.
Thesis statement: One’s happiness is highly dependent on the individuals and the surrounding that one is in. Family, friends and the environment play a big role in influencing a person’s feelings of happiness.
Introduction
* Attention Getter: Have you ever come across beautiful images of children playing in a field of flowers during a sunny day? Did you smile after seeing these images and thought to yourself that these children are really happy? Whether it is in images, films or real life situations, such scenes are bound to raise one’s spirit by cultivating a feeling of peace and happiness within the self.
* Credibility Statement: Having done expansive research on this topic, I feel that I am well equipped to share my knowledge on happiness with you.
* Relating to The Audience: All of us look forward to having beautiful and fulfilling moments whenever we spend time with our family and friends. Whether it is a family vacation or a shopping with friends or even taking a walk in the evening to catch the sunset, we are all seeking some form of happiness from all that we associate ourselves with.
* Thesis Statement: One’s happiness is highly dependent on the individuals and the surrounding that one is in. Family, friends and the environment play a big role in influencing a person’s feelings of happiness.
Transition: To begin with, I will touch on how money impacts on our happiness.
Body:
* Money does, indeed, buy happiness
¯ Although most people state that money does not buy happiness, 98 percent of poor people are unhappy (Reuters, 2015).
¯ One can use their hard earned money to plan for trips and vacations that can be enjoyed together with family members or friends.
¯ Gaining happiness from money does not necessarily refer to the act of using money on oneself as it is more satisfying to use money by investing it in friends and family.
Transition: Now that we have considered how money can be used to make us happy, let us talk about the connection that exists between happiness and suicide.
* Although suicide is often depicted as an act done out of desperation and depression, it often comes as a shock that happiness does trigger suicidal thoughts.
¯ Suicide is regarded as the ultimate action that is made out of desperate unhappiness. According to Daly and colleagues (2011), most people commit suicide when their life is going so badly that they see no point in living.
¯ However, research shows that the happiest countries and the happiest American states have higher rates of suicide. This is primarily as a result of disconnected people who, despite being in a happy place in their lives, they feel harshly treated by life.
¯ The only solution to this problem is to encourage such individuals to share their feelings of discontentment with their family and friends or spend some time in a place that makes them feel contented with life.
