Introduction
Teen pregnancy was a prominent topic in the United States during the latter decades of the twentieth century. Women become pregnant in the hope of being married off to their spouses after giving birth. According to statistics, the birth rate among teenagers in the United States has reached a new low due to increased teen access to sexual education and increased teen contraception use. Professions that engage directly with adolescents can substantially lower the risks resulting in teenage pregnancies and the associated consequences, including the financial expenses of teen pregnancies and educational and medical ramifications. Many people are concerned about teen pregnancy, and some of the most effective techniques for preventing it include sex education and encouraging young people to abstain from sexual activity.
In the United States, there were 31.1 births for every 1000 women aged 15 to 19, a new record low for the adolescent birth rate. The new law is expected to result from increased access to sexual education, increased use of contraception, and deferred sexual engagement among adolescents (Green et al., 2017). Compared to other developed countries, the United States has more excellent teen pregnancy rates, even though they are declining. Numerous factors have been discovered to boost a teen’s likelihood of becoming pregnant. Pregnancies in adolescence are heavily influenced by a woman’s upbringing and family history. According to a study, parents that are domineering toward their teenage daughters increase their daughters’ chances of becoming pregnant.
In other words, the majority of teen pregnancies are unwanted. According to inquiries and research, children regularly claim ignorance of the circumstance and no intention to cause harm. Since most pregnant teens have no other source of money, the additional study indicates that teen pregnancy is associated with societal issues such as poverty and income. Pregnant teenagers will face fewer options as the demand for higher education and well-compensated employment increases.
Pregnancy among adolescents has also been associated with significant economic hardship for the women and children involved. When a fifteen-year-old learns she is pregnant, numerous thoughts race through her mind. For instance, if her lover is also fifteen years old, she will recognize that she cannot parent the child. They will drop out of school to seek work and save money to start a family. They will be unable to obtain a job and be forced to live in poverty without generating cash to meet their basic requirements.
Additionally, these young ladies will console themselves by believing that they can give birth and spend a few months at home with their newborns before returning to school. Of course, this is not always the case. When no one else is willing to look after their infant, parents are forced to stay at home and care for their child. As a result, if the child becomes ill during the school day, they will miss class to care for their sick child. They will have no chance of receiving an education since they will be in and out of school. Because they cannot acquire skills that would enable them to obtain a job in the industries, the individuals affected fall into poverty.
As a result, teenage pregnancy and childbirth may have a detrimental effect on the mother’s schooling and her kid’s health. It makes logical that children born to teen mothers perform less well than children born to older mothers. They are supposed to perform more efficiently. According to the early child development indicator, children born to adolescent mothers are less prepared for school communication and social skills than children born to older mothers. For example, children born to these teenagers have a proclivity for academic failure, which means they will perform poorly on exams and are more likely to repeat a grade (Azevedo et al., 2014).
Individuals in the workforce who have regular contact with teenagers can play a critical role in lowering the dangers of teenage pregnancies by offering support, education, and establishing policies that benefit the kids’ lives (Mueller et al., 2017). Maintaining open discussion regarding sex, birth control, and teen pregnancy can assist parents in participating in their children’s life. If a teen pregnancy occurs, social support can assist the mother in avoiding depression and assisting in decision-making regarding the mother’s continued education by offering the necessary support that a community must provide.
