Food Restriction Diet and Bulimia Nervosa
The research question the paper aimed to answer is if bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa patients differ in their dietary restrictions behaviors. The hypothesis was that dietary restriction behaviors increase eating disorders such as Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorders. Binge eating is a diagnostic feature of bulimia nervosa disorder and is defined as consuming a large amount of food while having less overeating control (Castillo & Weiselberg, 2017). It emerges from restricting diet to achieve or maintain a specific shape or weight, which leads to rigid dietary behaviors (Lydecker et al., 2022). There is little research done to compare how food restriction and BN relate. There are few known specific conditions on diet behaviors, including reduced calorie content, fasting, and skipping meals that lead to binge eating across the different eating disorders subgroups (Castillo & Weiselberg, 2017). This research will assist in contributing to the comprehension of the relationship between dietary restriction behaviors and eating disorders while ensuring prevention measures for future treatments.
The method used to conduct the study was meta-analysis to test BN and diet restriction. Various databases were accessed to obtain information for the analysis, including Medline and CINAHL. The selected articles were from 2017 to 2022 and were all peer-reviewed. The hypothesis is supported by the survey done by Chami et al. (2021). They established that persons with BN, compared to BED, had a high chance of skipping meals. Moreover, the negative impact was more amongst the people with BN. Binge eating was demonstrated to be more frequent amongst the BN group as compared to BED. The study by (Linardon et al. (2018) did not support the hypothesis. It indicates that BN patients consumed fewer meals than others in females experiencing bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder, and BED victims ate more snacks. Castillo and Weiselberg (2017) found that PD and BN cause considerable mortality and morbidity in adults and adolescents. According to the results, adolescent patients with BN have an excellent prognosis. However, many of the patients require a proacted form of treatment. And lastly, the results focused on why the condition developed with less focus on the patient's eating patterns. Scott (2021) conducted a study on BN only and found that bulimia nervosa patients are influenced by factors without the fear of fattening. The results conclude by indicating other dietary restriction traits BN patients may have outside episodes of binge eating.
Diet restriction is onerous for people to achieve a healthy diet since most do not eat protein-rich food such as meat. People who do not eat meat might have a deficiency in iodine, zinc, and vitamin B12. Some health risks, such as weariness, diarrhea, loss of taste and smell, and even brain damage, can be acquired due to the lack of these food nutrients. A well-balanced Lacto-vegetarian diet can provide the body with all the necessary nutrients. However, if an individual doesn't plan, the person may have dietary inadequacies. People on Food restriction diets should be accommodated...
