Impact of Using Visual Aids (Research Paper Sample)
Synthesis Paper: Impact of Using Visual Aids to Train Practitioners
I am able to answer the PICO questions based on the three articles reviewed by Shield & Latter 2019, Lagoo et al., 2019, and Spiva et al., 2017. The PICO question sought clarification on whether using visual aids to train practicing providers on how to use defibrillators improved practitioner confidence and skills in a 6-month time frame, compared to standard training (without visual aids). I feel confident to answer this question because the appraised research articles covered all the components of the PICO question, namely population (practicing nurses), intervention (use of visual aids ), comparison (standard training), outcome (improved confidence and skills) Time (6 months period).

Based on the evidence, there is a need for a change in the training of nurses and physicians to improve competence in the use of medical devices and equipment, especially in critical care settings. According to Shield and Latter (2019), practitioners’ knowledge on how to use medical devices impacts patient safety. Visual aids will enhance nurses’ and physicians’ knowledge on how to use defibrillators by helping them develop mental images on how to handle the device and how long to press it to the target region.
