Introduction
The Canadian Nurses Association (2003) state that the duties that are performed by nurses are very important to the recovery of clients and patients who can access the healthcare system. It has been agreed that registered nurses sacrifice the highest amount of hours of coordination and care in comparison to other healthcare providers. They act as the main interface connecting the healthcare system and patients. The workload that is performed by nurses should be understood to improve the recovery outcome of patients.
Importance of the Topic to the Facility
The Canadian Nurses Association (2003) argues that many nurses have mentioned workload as a determining factor in job dissatisfaction. Research done by the Association has revealed that a short-term increase in the output of the nurses may lead to an increase in the long-term health costs. It is evident that the nurses' workload has not been measured accurately. Hence, their expertise and effort have not been recognized. Nurses are a scarce resource whose demand would increase in the future thus bringing out the need to improve the nurse-patient ratio. Also, the recovery of patients is almost proportionate to the amount of resources that have been spent.
For the purpose of improving the nurses' workload, the facility may be required to integrate patient data, nursing activities and finances. The Canadian Nurses Association (2003) argues that an improvement in the comparability of data and timelines would be attained if nurses' workload is reviewed. It will also enable the facility to account for and track the time that is spent caring for patients. Furthermore, the efficiency of data collection during the entire period would be improved.
Conflict Resolution Steps
A proposal requires a look at various dimensions and responsibilities. Leary (2008) argues that the first step towards solving the issue would be effective communication. The presenter should request for a meeting or a session with the administrators where they would explain the proposal. The disagreements may have occurred due to different understanding brought up by the topic of the proposal. Every administrator would then be required to give their views concerning the topic. The views would be taken down by the use of a questionnaire. The questions in the questionnaire can include: "Should the topic for the proposal be changed? If not, what would be the best topic? Why should the topic be changed?" Other questions can also be included. The presenter should then take down all the opinions regardless of their feelings towards the administrators' point of view. The administrators will also be allowed to ask questions regarding the proposal. The presenter should then come up with a summary of all the opinions.
A compromise may also be required during the presentation. Leary (2008) argues that it can be explained as a kind of soft bargaining where every administrator and presenter will take turns to explain their point of view. In this case, proper negotiations will be required. The questionnaires will give a chance to all the administrators to put forward their thoughts on why the topic should be changed. The presentation will also give a chance to the presenter to explain why they chose the topic and why they believe it should be retained. Hendel et al. (2004) explain that taking such an approach may help reduce tensions during the session and may lead to a stronger relationship between the administrators and the presenter.
The presenter may also be required to postpone the presentation until the most appropriate time. This may give them ample time to prepare adequately to answer the questions appropriately. If the presentation receives heavy criticism, the presenter may be required to keep their calm to avoid future misunderstanding between them. Northam (2009) explains that postponing the presentation may also give the presenter a chance to gather more information regarding the topic and presenting it in a more appropriate way.
The presenter may also be required to give in or accommodate the views of the administrators. Cooperation with the administrators is one of the factors that influence the success of the healthcare system.
