Drug and substance abuse has affected many celebrities around the globe. With the fame and money that people get after being known globally, celebrities unusually get engaged in drug and substance abuse. This incidence leads to mental problems and even death if no proper treatment is accorded to them. Whitney Houston was one of the celebrities that succumbed to drugs and abuse. Born on August 9, 1963, the American singer becomes one of the bests selling tracks globally after releasing almost seven studio albums and two soundtracks which managed to be rated with both diamond and gold by the recording industry association of America (RIAA) (Pareles & Nagourney, 2012). With regard to her success, this paper analyses how Houston got engaged in drug and substance abuse, the impact of drug and substance abuse, the critical treatment process is undertaken to support her addiction
Early Life
Houston was born in New Jersey to African American parents. Her father, john Russel Houston jr. was a former army serviceman, while the mother was a gospel singer (Pareles & Nagourney, 2012). She lived in a middle-income neighborhood of Newark together with other family members. Houston, before her death, was considered one of the bests artists of both the 20th and 21st centuries. She had recorded many albums and soundtrack, which made her nominated into the hole of fame with many selling tracks within the American and global market. Houston was a focused person within the 1980s and 90s (Caramanica, 2019). However, her behavior began to change in the early 2000s after she often started to miss interviews, photoshoots, and rehearsals. She often canceled concerts and talks shows an aspect that was associated with drug and substance use. Notably, drug and substance abuse made her deviate from her normal operations. Thus, affecting her music carrier.
