National institutes of health are a branch of the United States department of health and human services. They are charged with making discoveries that will contribute to improved health and save lives, and it is the nation’s medical research agency. According to NIH, their mission "is to seek fundamental knowledge and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life and reduce illness and disability."
Their aim or objective is to create discoveries, innovate research strategies, and apply them to improve health. They also expand medical knowledge and promote a high level of integrity, accountability, and responsibility in science (National Institutes of Health, n.d.). They are policies that guide the approach in which how activities are conducted at the national institutes of health. The strategies include clinical and health research, scientific data sharing and technology transfer, and innovation. Others are science coordination, collaboration, and reporting and biosafety, biosecurity, and emerging biotechnology policy.
