Should Euthanasia be Legal?
In today's world, euthanasia, sometimes known as physician-assisted suicide, elicits conflicting reactions, with both sides of the debate expressing reasonable concerns. On the one hand, supporters of euthanasia believe that people have the right to choose when and how they die, particularly if they have a fatal condition (Sumachev, 2020, p. 25). Opponents of assisted suicide, on the other hand, base their case on legal and theological grounds based on the sanctity of life. However, euthanasia should be permitted to save money, alleviate patient suffering, and provide individuals with alternatives.
To begin with, legalizing euthanasia saves money and resources. Terminal illnesses are expensive to treat in many nations, and resources such as hospital beds and medical practitioners are few (Wang et al., 2022, p. 74). As a result, resources are squandered by keeping terminally sick individuals on life support devices to prolong their lives. It would be preferable to use such resources to help other patients with treatable diseases. In addition, physician-assisted suicide saves families from incurring large medical bills that would otherwise force them into poverty. As a result, legalizing euthanasia would aid in the utilization of scarce resources and keep afflicted
