Drug addiction has become a problem that is causing panic among people in the society today. It has the ability to restrain or hinder people from achieving their dreams or goals in life. Addition can occur to anyone whether powerful or bright, this condition can cause problems in family structure, it can cause harm to the bodies of those who engage in it and it can also contribute to society delinquency. Many of the patients have fought hard to recover, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has helped counselors to guide and govern a client who is already transitioning to abstinence. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an approach that assists the users to recognize and understand particular situations that make them engage in the addictive behaviors. By recognizing such circumstances, it becomes easier to deal with them in an appropriate manner (Carroll & Onken, 2005).
The Cognitive behavioral therapy helps the counselor to do functional analysis. Through this therapy the counselor is able to identify the situations, feelings and thoughts that the client goes through before he or she started using the illicit substance.
