Advanced Practice Nursing is a healthcare industry where advanced nurses play a crucial role in enhancing healthcare. Advanced practice nursing involves offering advanced ways of successfully delivering the most cost-effective healthcare and improving the accessibility to qualified practitioners, especially for many patients worldwide. Generally, advanced nursing practice is a field that expands, and extends the nursing scope boundaries, promotes the nursing profession, and highly contributes knowledge to the nursing sector. Advanced practice nursing involves critical areas that need to be discussed to develop a successful professional development plan for advanced nursing practice.
These key areas include: first, the scope of practice. Scope of practice entails discussing the major vital roles that qualified health professionals are entitled to undertake and perform. The nursing scope describes the what, who, when, where, how, and why nursing practice. For this paper, a description of the intended purpose of the plan after graduation will be discussed, educational requirements, and a detailed description of nursing practice authority in the state. Secondly, the nursing competencies provide the essential skills that healthcare practitioners should possess to perform the best healthcare services. Ideally, competency in nursing is the ability to carry out nursing that fulfills the patients' basic needs with the use of accurate nursing skills. Therefore, this paper will provide an overview of the critical competencies that students can venture into and some of the activities that students may undertake during their master’s program to increase their chances of achieving the nursing practice competencies.
Lastly, leadership in advanced nursing practice describes the relationship between the healthcare PR actioners and the patients. According to Kouzes and Posner, leadership in nursing refers to the ability of patients and organizations to be focused and the organization's system. Nursing students require leadership skills to perfect their performance of nursing practice within complex systems. In addition, the paper will also focus on various strategies that nursing students may adopt to develop nursing practice leadership skills effectively. Therefore, this paper seeks to address an in-depth discussion on the scope of practice, the critical competencies, and nursing leadership. In addition, the report provides a detailed purpose for developing an advanced development plan.
Scope of Practice of APN
After graduation, students may choose a different area to enhance their nursing practice. Other regions in the world have different laws that govern the advanced nursing practice by nursing practitioners or students. A student willing to advance their nursing practice in California must familiarize themselves with California Nurse Practice Act. The act proves an apparent function of healthcare practitioners' authority and standard acceptance procedures.
License Requirements
In California, the healthcare systems are not limited to licensed pursuant healthcare facilities. According to the state, a nurse must attain various conditions to practice advanced nursing in California (Guglielmo et al ., 2018). A nurse should perform a patient's direct and indirect care services to ensure the patient is safe and not limited to therapeutic agents and medications administration. In addition, a nurse should be able to observe symptoms and signs of any illness or any reaction of any medication administered to a patient. To fulfill any abortion services using aspiration techniques, individuals with a valid certificate or license as a certified midwife or nurse shall finish a training acknowledged by a committee of registered nursing. Additionally, the healthcare practitioners are entitled to cohere to all standardized procedures necessary to carry out abortion within the state.
Prescriptive Authority

Under professional development, a student can demonstrate accountability over a patient's status and growth. Additionally, the student can apply skills and knowledge for healthcare research purposes. As a result, they can participate appropriately in research findings. Nursing students thus can maintain the basic ethics of nursing since they have complete knowledge about the nursing application of critical principles for making decisions ethically for nurses.
Competency Areas that Students may have Room for Growth
The ability to manage care to a patient is one of the areas s that nursing students may have opportunities. Management of care involves the supervision of a patient. To effectively offer the best care skills to a patient, nurses require reasoning and clinical skills. Since the best healthcare services require patient management, nurses need to have care management skills. A student with the best management care conducts a comprehensive assessment of families, communities, and individuals. Students have opportunities to manage and diagnose any health care conditions and problems.
On the other hand, leadership management is one of the significant areas where nursing students have more excellent opportunities to enhance their nursing careers. Students can demonstrate clinical leadership in the field of advanced nursing. Students can provide clinical supervision to deliver the nursing practice and the best care. In addition, A nursing student can also grow by strengthening the research and clinical nursing sector relationship. Students can evaluate the present findings of the study and determine the relevance to unit practice.
Scholarly Activities to Help Achieve Nursing Practice Competencies
The master’s program curriculum aims to offer students a more significant opportunity to become the best healthcare practitioners. Therefore, students require to possess the core nursing practice competencies. Thus, several scholarly activities can be employed by nursing students to achieve the nursing practice competencies. They include; offering scholarships to nursing students and training students on clinical practice (Schofield et al., 2018). Offering scholarships to nursing students provides a foundation for delivering pre-eminent nursing practices. A scholarship is a critical activity that learning institutions should practice doing. Scholarships help students enhance their learning knowledge and improve their Schorlay skills.
