According to Nelson and Staggers (2014), meaningful use is the process of making crucial decisions on the most beneficial way to put into use information gathered through electronic health records. An EHR contains all important data, for example, patient address, Healthcare registration number, allergies or whatever other diseases suffered, health history of the family, Immunization status, medication taken, hospitalization record and surgeries experienced. Information gathered by the EHR is to be utilized in the best way possible so as to improve clinicians practice by enhancing healthcare reforms. Health facilities managed to access important medical background of the patients. New technology has also led to adoption of new mechanics.
Meaningful use has enabled both the patient and the service provider to easily access the health records of the patient, reducing instances of medical errors. The availability of client information on the digital platform has enabled the health service providers to access comprehensive information of the patient’s health conditions when the cases are referred to other hospitals and physicians. It has also made it easier to send patients reminders of their pending appointments and follow ups thus improving the recovery process.
