Khufu
The history of Egypt would be incomplete without the mention of its pharaohs. There are various kings or pharaohs that characterize the different kingdoms in this jurisdiction. However, King Khufu is the subject of interest in this piece of research. This Monarch was the second king in the fourth dynasty of the old kingdom. His full name was Khnum-Khufu, and the Greeks used to refer to him as Cheops (Brier, 1999). The name Khnum-Khufu means that the god Khnum is his protector. Khufu is a significant character in the chronicles of the old kingdom.
Arguably, Khufu’s exact date of birth is unknown. As a result, researchers quote different dates. For instance, some manuscripts record that he was probably born around 2575 B.C. Similarly, it is assumed that he most likely died in circa 2566 B.C. (“Pharaoh Khufu Facts”, n.d.). Khufu’s leadership was characterized with cruelty, harshness, and ruthlessness. These attitudes were revealed during the construction period by some of the laborers of the pyramid. He started ruling in his early twenties, and exercised his kingship for more than two decades. That is the period of 2589-2566 B.C. However, due to the scanty of information about him, different pieces of writing contain varying information about the range of his ruling. The pharaoh’s legacy reigned for close to fifteen years.
